Hair: Shaving – Waxing – Plucking OH MY!
Shaving every day, plucking the random ones and waxing weekly! The process is endless. These routine annoyances finally took their toll and I decided enough was enough! How Many Treatments Will I Need?
They say on average people need 5-7 treatments with possible touch ups in the future. Hair grows in cycles, so you need to do multiple treatments 4-6 weeks apart to treat each cycle. I’ve done 6 treatments on my underarms and I think I will probably need one or two more. Most of the hair is completely gone but there are a couple patchy spots. I’ve done 5 treatments on my legs and bikini and I think I might be done. It’s been 6 weeks since my last treatments and I haven’t had any new growth in these two areas, so I’m thinking they are good to go :))
Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?
Well, it’s not my favorite feeling but it is tolerable. Some areas are more sensitive than others, each area felt different with a different level of discomfort. The discomfort is temporary and was only during the treatment. Each laser pulse lasts less than a second and produces a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, it feels like a quick rubber band snap. The technician also uses a cooling device, which cools your skin during treatment, minimizing the discomfort. My underarms and bikini were the most sensitive, while legs was easy peasy, comparatively speaking. I did not treat the upper lip but I’ve heard that is a very sensitive area. They also offer numbing cream if it gets to be too much but I never needed it.
How do I prepare for my Hair Removal treatment?
You will need to stop waxing and plucking a few weeks before the treatment. You can continue to shave throughout the process. Shave the area prior to your appointment and go with clean skin. No make-up or lotions on the area you will be treating. Depending on the type of laser, you may need to avoid sun exposure for up to 2 weeks before the treatment.
What should I do After My treatment?
You can return to normal activity immediately. Avoid direct sun exposure after your treatment. If you do go in the sun, protect the treated area with SPF.
Is everyone a candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
The lasers available today can treat all skin types but not all hair types. It works best on dark hair. The laser looks for pigment and picks it up in the darker follicle. Unfortunately, the laser does not work with light hair such as blonde or grey hair, as there is not pigment for the laser to respond to.
What type of laser did you use?
The laser used on me was the CoolGlide. The CoolGlide can disable hundreds of hair follicles in less than one second and promises long-lasting results. The laser settings can be adjusted to match each skin type. I had great results with no complications so I would highly recommend using this laser.
What are the risks?
- Swelling, blistering, crusting or flaking of the treated areas, which may require a few weeks to heal
- Bruising, burning or infection
- Scarring – it’s a rare occurrence, but it’s possible
To avoid possible complications – closely follow the instructions from your technician!! I did not have any complications with my treatments and I’m obsessed with being hair free.
How much does it cost?
This will depend on the area you live and the clinic you choose. It can range from $25- $375 based on area but just make sure you are going to a credible place with experienced technicians. I found it was cheaper to buy a package. The price went down for buying multiple treatments and multiple areas. And now I’m saving money: no more expensive razors and no more wax appointments. wahoooooooo!!
Would you recommend Laser Hair Removal?
YES. YES. YES. JUST YES!!!! Run don’t walk!! Get in and start your treatments ASAP. Did I say YES, yet?? I’m so happy with the results. Bathing suit season will be so much fun next summer. No more shaving or waxing. No more 5’oclock shadow on my underarms. No more stubble on my legs. A hair free life is the way to be!
