What is Rosacea?

Do you suffer from Rosacea? If you do, you probably searching for the best treatments for your skin.

Effective treatment begins with an understanding of the symptoms of rosacea and distinguishing them from other skin related conditions. Initially, this disorder may be mistaken for acne, so it is important to know what condition you have.

Rosacea Symptoms

Facial redness is the most common symptom, and is caused by many tiny dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin. These blood vessels become inflamed or dilated due to specific triggers.

Rosacea Triggers:

  • Sun exposure
  • Emotional stress
  • Hot or cold weather
  • Alcohol
  • Spicy foods
  • Hot baths
  • Heated beverages
  • Certain skin care products

Other Common Rosacea Symptoms Include:

Flushing – Facial flushing and redness is usually the first symptom and tends to come and go. The skin may be clear for weeks, months, or years and then erupt again.

Burning or stinging – This is the most common symptom, which can be aggravated when using harsh facial cleansers, lotions, or creams. That’s why it’s important to use mild products with a sufficient amount of effective ingredients that work to treat your specific symptoms.

Pimples or bumps – Often referred to as acne rosacea, consists mostly of small red bumps that are not squeezable or extractable like blackheads.

Visible Blood Vessels – During the more severe stages, tiny red veins that look like spider webs become more prominent on the nose and cheeks.

Swelling – Swelling of the face is a common symptom for many people.

Not So Common Rosacea Symptoms Include:

Ocular Rosacea – Dry, red, irritated eyes. The eyelids may look red and swollen, and vision may be blurry. Styes are also a common symptom.

Thickening of the Skin – This condition usually affects the nose, and the skin becomes thick and enlarged.

If you believe that you may have rosacea, the first thing to do is to see a specialist that deals with this type of skin condition.

Effective treatments can include prescribed medications, laser and other treatments, skin care and overall body health. Although there is no cure, with a good treatment plan rosacea can be controlled.

Treatments for Rosacea

Rosacea can be caused from an overly acidic body and skin. Some types of food and drinks, such as cheese, meat, alcohol, and stimulants like cigarettes and coffee, form acids when processed by the body. Alkaline-forming foods, like fruits and vegetables help to neutralize acids.

By following a healthy diet rich in alkaline-forming foods, you can balance your body and reduce your symptoms while improving your overall health.

Laser Treatments

Laser treatments are used to target the redness in the skin. The specific wavelengths of light are absorbed by the vessels, causing there injury and then the body naturally absorbs them.

Laser Genesis is a NdYag laser that gently heats the skin to break down diffused facial redness. A vein laser works well on larger telangiectasia and facial veins that commonly appear on the surface of the face when you suffer from Rosacea.

IPL “Photo-Facial” is multi-wavelength laser used for treating this condition.  A combination of these multiple types of laser treatments with proper home care will give you the most effective results and will allow you to love your skin again!

Another treatment that can help with rosacea is Microneedling. Micro needling at a lower depth is beneficial because it does not physically remove the outer layers of skin, but stimulates growth factors to strengthen vessel walls, decreasing inflammation and increasing product penetration. Human growth factors, from PRP, that are strictly anti-inflammatory are being used in conjunction with microneedling to treat this condition with great success.
